Range cooking thermometer App Reviews

Great system for variety of cooking needs

I have both the Ember and Aqua ranges and use them for a variety of things, from BBQ’ing to making beer. They work really well. They have proven to be very precise and I like being able to set target temperatures and receive alerts when that temp is hit.

Remote alerts are awesome!

Im a home-brewer; this thing worked flawlessly. It did everything it said would. The remote alerts were a great help, as I didnt have to baby-sit the mash. I especially like setting multiple alerts (up and down), so I can keep the temp in the desired range.

Doesnt work

Tried on 2 iPads and only got to work briefly. Unplugged and tried it again 10 minutes later and wont work. Not reliable

Simple, Useful, Effective

Great app! Loved how easy it is to use, and the notifications on other iOS devices is killer! So far Ive use the meat range on fish, chicken and hamburgers. In each case, the temperature has been spot on, and only taken a few seconds (from not being used, aka the Range is at room temp) to get an accurate reading. The only minor quip I have is at the moment theres no universal setting for fish, but I suspect this is because seafood has different temp ranges depending on the type

Simple, great design, easy to use

Great tool and app! I use this pretty much every time I cook or grill meat/fish now, and it’s been an amazing tool for getting perfectly-cooked protein every time - delicious. Great design for both thermometers, and the app is super-easy to install and use.

Works Awesome

I dont get the review of someone burning up there probe to the wire on the grill. The instructions say it is safe in oven to 450 degrees. Of course it cant handle a flame on it! That would obviously be hotter! Use common sense and it works great.

Works fine on later iPads, crashes on iPad 1

One big feature I considered for the Range thermometer was compatibility with the iPad 1, because we have an extra one and would like to use it to sit by the oven and record the temperature. At the moment, the app crashes on launch every time on the iPad 1.

Great companion app for the Range thermometer

I’ve only had one opportunity to use the app with my Aqua Range thermometer (for home brewing) but I think the app is wonderful! It’s simple to use but does take a minute or two to get it sorted out. I’ve had no compatibility or crashing issues, but I did initially have an issue where my primary iPhone couldn’t get remote alerts from the old iPhone connected to the Aqua Range. This was quickly fixed by Supermechanical’s support team (Thanks, John!) and remote alerts do work now. If there was one feature I’d like to see, it would be the ability to get live readings remotely, rather than just notifications when the temperature hits a specific number. For my purposes, that would merely add some extra “cool” factor, but I can see where that’d be useful for people who need very accurate temperature control. Anyway, thanks for the awesome app and keep up the good work, Supermechanical!

Crapped Out

I backed the Range thermometer on Kickstarter was totally excited about the entire concept. App worked OK but my thermometer stopped working after several uses. I contacted customer support (which was not easy I may add) and finally heard back from Risto apologizing for the delay and letting me know my Range was out of warranty and they were out of stock on my model but would be happy to give me a discount on an upgrade. Not sure why I would fork out another $50 when I already backed them on their Kickstarter campaign and only got a few cooks out of their defective thermometer. You would have thought they would have taken care of their initial backers and avoided the negative reviews - I will also be posting this on amazon. Great idea - poor execution.

Awful app

Super buggy app. -display messes up when you rotate it Freezes when you try to zoom Rangefinders dont properly appear in landscape mode Timer only goes off once and is easy to miss Come on!!!! Fix this mess.

Get great results in the kitchen!

The Range thermometer and app really help to eliminate guesswork when cooking meat. Ovens vary, but you know exactly whats happening with Range. I love having alerts sound on a different iOS device than the one thats plugged in to the thermometer. Highly recommended.

Bummed out

I had high expectations, but now I am on my second probe. And I cannot get this app to work on my iPhone 6 to display temperatures.

Great thermometer

This is a wonderful thermometer. Easy to read and no guess work needed. Only reason for not giving it a 5 star rating is because, since you have to leave the thermometer plugged in to take advantage of the graphing info that is generated based on temp and time, it would be nice to see the temp from the lock screen or notification screen on the iPhone.

Works great!

The Range device works jus as it should. I have used it on the grill and in the oven. I verified the temperature with another thermometer and it is right on. The ability for graphing is interesting. Maybe someday if I get into brewing or candy making, Ill get to try all of the features.

Very accurate

In addition to being accurate, the remote alerts are very convenient.

only get alerts when in the foreground? How is that useful?

"Alerts that you set on your remote device (not the one that Range is plugged into) will be triggered while the app is in the foreground only, to conserve bandwidth and battery life.” So you are saying if I have a Range plugged in to a remote device, and I want to get alerts on the iPhone in my pocket.. I have to have the Range app in the foreground on the iPhone in my pocket or I will not receive an alert when whatever I am cooking is done? Is that right? If so.. how is that even remotely useful?
